Summary Of Practice

Richard practices exclusively in family law, with a particular emphasis on public and private law within the Children Act and also Ancillary Relief and Trust of Land applications within financial matters.  He has undertaken lengthy fact finding hearings involving complex and conflicting medical evidence. Richard represents a balance of Local Authorities, parents and Guardian’s.

Richard regularly presents accredited training seminars to local authorities and respondent solicitors.

Selected Cases

Re B&H (Children) [2003] EWCA 181 - Court of Appeal decision dealing with whether a Judge was right to make findings despite conflicting medical evidence and subsequent signs of abuse that could not have been perpetrated by the Respondents.

Re G (Adoption) [2008] EWCA Civ 105 - Court of Appeal decision ruling that the Adoptions with a Foreign Element Regulations 2005 are not contravened if the foreign equivalent of the English adoption agency confirms in writing that the subject child will be authorised to enter and remain in the foreign country.

Re G (Adoption) [2008] EWCA Civ 105(2)

In this case, in which Richard Beddoe represented the local authority, the Court of Appeal ruled that in adoptions of UK children to foreign countries, the confirmation required by the Adoptions with a Foreign Element Regulations 2005  that the child was or would be authorised to enter and remain in the foreign country was to be provided by the foreign adoption agency, not the foreign immigration authorities.
