Summary Of Practice

Richard was called to the Bar in 1985. He specialises in clinical negligence, personal injury and professional regulatory work. His clinical negligence work includes claims for cerebral palsy and other birth injuries, psychiatric issues, including misdiagnosis and self-inflicted harm, negligent surgery and delayed diagnosis of cancer. His personal injury work involves predominantly brain and spinal injuries, together with industrial disease.

He appears in professional regulatory cases before the General Medical Council and the Care Standards Tribunal. Richard regularly lectures on issues of procedural and substantive law. 

Ranked as a Leading Junior in the field of clinical negligence in the Chambers and Partners Guide to the Legal Profession 2006.

Bottomley v Todmorden Cricket Club - liability of occupier in respect of negligent selection of independent contractor where injury suffered by servant or agent of independent contractor.

C v South Manchester University Hospitals NHS Trust - clinical negligence claim involving hypoglycaemia leading to cognitive deficit behavioural difficulties and visual impairment.

Furness v Midland Bank - ambit of duty of employer under Workplace (Health,Safety and Welfare Regs) 1992 in respect of spillages of water.

Abu Roma v General Medical Council - challenge of findings of Professional Conduct Committee of GMC.
