Edward qualified as a solicitor in 1978 having served his articles of clerkship in a general practice firm, Whitelock & Storr in Holborn, where he gained experience of family law and civil litigation.
Edward spent his first six years as a solicitor at Southwark Law Centre where he represented individuals in care proceedings and housing cases and community groups in matters such as drafting constitutions and advising and participating in housing and planning policy development.
As an associate solicitor at Lomax & Co on The Old Kent Road in Southwark, Edward continued to specialise in children’s cases and became a founder member of The Law Society’s Child Care Panel in 1985. He also represented clients in criminal cases and civil litigation. The textbook “ Housing Disrepair,” of which Edward was co author was published in the Oyez Longman Practitioner Series in 1985.
From 1986 until his call to The Bar in 2012 Edward was a partner in the firm of Lomax Lloyd-Jones where he continued to specialise in children’s cases, representing parents and children.
In his pamphlet “ The Forward March of Children’s Justice Halted”, published by Triarchy Press in 2008, Edward undertook a detailed critique of the ways in which, in his view, the vision of The Children Act 1989 had been undermined by governments of all colours. These themes have been further explored in a number of articles, principally in The Family Law Journal. In recent years Edward has been involved in organising seminars on issues such as adoption, neuroscience, siblings and the impact of recent legislative changes on social work practice.
Edward is a visiting lecturer at Royal Holloway, University of London.
Edward joined 42, Bedford Row in August 2016 having previously been a tenant at 14, Gray’s Inn Square since his call to The Bar in October 2012. He specialises in public law children’s cases and also undertakes private law work.
Edward speaks conversational French and Welsh and has been known to become animated by the success of the Welsh rugby and Glamorgan cricket teams.
