Introduction

Emma is an experienced practitioner in the area of public law, having worked for 13 years for a Local Authority, latterly as senior lawyer for the family legal team. She has also taught on the Bar Vocational Course and at the University of Brighton and uses this expertise to inform any training sessions she undertakes, whether for social workers or lawyers. Since returning to the Bar in 2016, Emma has represented local authorities, parents and children in public law proceedings, and parents and children in private law proceedings.

Emma is married with three sons and lives in Sussex. Prior to qualifying as a barrister, Emma worked in publishing and theatre.

Children public law: care proceedings and adoption

Emma has extensive knowledge relating to all areas of local authority children law and practice and adoption. She has recent experience of cases involving chronic neglect, sexual abuse, non-accidental injury and international adoption. A social worker client, at the end of a case, commented that ‘She has worked ridiculously hard. She was very knowledgeable, supportive and her communication with us has been outstanding.’
