Rachel practised in both criminal and family work in London for over 6 years before moving to Kent and specializing solely in the latter, with a focus on care and private law work.
Rachel is regularly instructed in cases involving allegations of domestic abuse, sexual abuse, inflicted injury and/or neglect and has experience dealing with complex cultural issues and cases with an international element, including child abduction and forced marriage. She was recently led in the High Court in a number of very complex matters, one of which was a high profile case involving the death of a baby. Other interesting recent work has included representing the Guardian in care cases in the Falkland Islands.
Rachel has a reputation for her excellent memory and thorough preparation of the papers. Her clients can expect honest, practical advice and a very robust presentation of their case where agreement cannot be reached. Her approach is friendly and down to earth, which is combined with equal measures of passion and common sense. Her previous criminal practice and current voluntary work has also equipped her with invaluable advocacy skills and a good working knowledge of criminal procedure.
Rachel is an Advocacy Tutor for Lincoln’s Inn, teaching on both the New Practitioners and Pupils’ Advocacy and Ethics training courses. She is also a governor at a primary school in Kent, with a role in safeguarding issues. Her previous voluntary work includes pro bono family advice for the Kent Law Clinic and the Canterbury CAB, and family work for the Bar Pro Bono Unit.
Rachel accepts direct access work and is a trained mediator, although she is not currently accepting any mediation work at present.
