Rachel is a very experienced family practitioner, specialising in children work in London and the South East.  She has a good working knowledge of criminal law and procedure, having had a mixed family and criminal practice for over 6 years’ and as a result of her current voluntary work. 

Frequently instructed in lengthy, factually and/or legally complex hearings involving domestic abuse, sexual abuse, inflicted injury, fabricated or induced illness and/or neglect, Rachel also has experience dealing with complex cultural issues and cases with an international element. 

Rachel has a reputation for her excellent memory, thorough preparation of the papers and eye for detail. Her clients can expect honest, practical advice and very robust presentation of their case where agreement cannot be reached. Her approach is friendly, sensitive and down to earth, which is combined with equal measures of passion and common sense. Rachel is ICCA Vulnerable Witness Advocacy trained (2022) and has a wealth of experience dealing with vulnerable clients with additional needs. 

Rachel is committed to continuing professional development and has delivered webinars as part of 42BR Barristers’ Webinar Programme.  She was a school governor at two primary schools, appointed as Vice Chair in one and Chair of Governors for over 3½ years at the second.  She is a trained mediator although is not currently accepting any mediation work and has been an Advocacy Tutor for Lincoln’s Inn on their New Practitioners and Pupils’ Advocacy and Ethics training courses for a number of years.  Since 2020, Rachel is a volunteer for the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health on their Annual Child Protection from Examination to Court (Level 3) course.  Rachel also acts pro bono on instructions from Advocate. 

A fierce advocate of equality, diversity and inclusion at the Bar, Rachel was selected by the Bar Council as one of their 10 Bar Social Mobility Advocates in 2021.  She is a panellist on the Lincoln’s Inn Scholarship Panels, a Judge for the Global Legal Post Inaugural Women and Diversity in Law Awards and was voted onto the Family Law Bar Association National Committee.

Rachel is regularly instructed to act in lengthy and complex care proceedings for parents, children, grandparents and interveners, involving domestic abuse, sexual abuse, inflicted injury, fabricated or induced illness and/or neglect. 

Private Family Law 

Rachel is frequently instructed in complex cases on behalf of the Children in r.16.4 matters
