Introduction

Richard has been regularly practicing advocacy in the civil courts since 2009, having been a solicitor’s agent prior to completing pupillage in 2011. He currently has a busy civil common law practice with two main areas of emphasis:

  • Landlord & Tenant/Housing
  • Commercial Litigation/Debt Recovery

Richard has repeatedly been commended for his attention to detail, thorough preparation and pragmatic approach to litigation.

Commercial Litigation

Richard regularly assists clients in relation to the multitudinous day-to-day disputes which arise out of commercial activity, acting for and advising individuals, companies and partnerships. He has extensive advocacy experience covering interim applications and trials (fast- and multi-track) and can turn around advices, pleadings and applications within tight deadlines.

He has particular expertise in debt recovery and enforcement of judgments.

His practice covers the following areas:

Commercial Landlord & Tenant

Richard acts for both landlords and tenants in matters arising out of commercial leases. He accepts instructions to advise, draft pleadings/applications, and appear in court (at trials and interim hearings) in respect of the following:

  • Applications under Part II of the Landlord and Tenant Act 1954
  • Arrears of rent
  • Disrepair issues
  • Breach of alienation covenants
  • Forfeiture and relief from forfeiture
  • Dilapidations
  • Unlawful use
  • Richard’s work covers recovery of rent arrears, forfeiture generally and matters arising out of s.25 and s.26 notices. He acts both for Landlords and for Tenants.

Personal Injury

Richard acts in PI matters arising out of RTAs, accidents at work and occupiers’ liability claims. He regularly appears in the county court on behalf of Claimants and Defendants in trials and interim applications, as well as drafting pleadings and advising on all stages of PI litigation.

Richard authors the Civil Law chapter of the Butterworths Road Traffic Service and has an in-depth knowledge of credit hire law.
