Alex joined 42BR in November 2024 following the successful completion of his pupillage at a leading regional set. During pupillage, Alex obtained experience in a broad range of areas and now accepts instructions in the following areas: Business and Property; Housing; Employment; and Personal Injury.
Before commencing pupillage, Alex undertook the BCL at Christ Church, University of Oxford. Prior to the BCL, Alex obtained his LLB from Keele University, where upon completion, he was awarded the Maxwell Law Prize as the highest ranked student in a cohort of 212.
Alex also spent a year as a fulltime Debt Adviser at the Citizens Advice, where he provided free legal advice to individuals experiencing financial issues, with a specific focus on insolvency options. After examining lay clients’ financial circumstances and objectives, Alex provided detailed verbal and written legal advice, with recommendations made as to the options that would be best suited to that particular client. A further part of the role was negotiating with creditors on behalf of lay clients, and making representations on their behalf where necessary.
Prior to changing to a career in law, Alex completed a Level 2 Diploma in Carpentry and Joinery.
After then spending some time working in the hospitality industry, Alex moved to Australia where he lived for two years. In Australia, Alex continued to work in the hospitality industry whilst also working on a vineyard in Margaret River, where he worked alongside the fifth generation owner to make wine.
Throughout his pupillage, Alex worked on a broad range of Business and Property disputes that concerned issues such as: Contractual construction and rectification; Professional Negligence; Guarantees; PPI; Insolvency; Unincorporated Associations; Property (including TOLATA and Trusts of the Family Home); and Estoppel (Proprietary and Promissory). Having obtained a broad range of experience in this area, Alex now accepts instructions in a wide range of Business and Property matters.
During pupillage, Alex assisted on matters in the Employment Tribunal, the EAT, the High Court and the Court of Appeal. Following completion of his pupillage, Alex undertook numerous hearings in his own right, several of which involved complex points of law, such as whether several distinct Covid-19 infections could, when taken together, constitute a disability for the purposes of the Equality Act 2010. More broadly, the matters Alex has worked on have been varied and have concerned issues such as: direct and indirect discrimination; harassment; victimisation; unfair dismissal; TUPE; holiday pay; and negligent misstatement in the employment context.
Alex accepts instructions to act on behalf of Claimants and Defendants in Personal Injury matters and has broad experience of: Fast Track Trials; Small Claims; Stage 3 hearings; and Interim Applications.
Alex accepts instructions to act for landlords (private and social) and tenants in all stages of a broad range of proceedings (including possession, disrepair and anti-social behaviour injunctions) from the initial drafting of pleadings to representation at hearings.
