
James Norman has worked in family law since 2008, first in a legal aid law firm and then at the bar, specialising in children’s law. James has been a specialist family barrister since 2011 regularly representing parties in the Family Court, High Court and Court of Protection.
Family Law
In care proceedings, James represents local authorities, parents, other family members, interveners and children’s guardians. He has particular experience in cases involving non-accidental injuries, sexual abuse, and cases involving placement outside the jurisdiction. James’s experience includes applications for secure accommodation orders or court authorisations for a deprivation of a child’s liberty.
James appears in private cases involving child arrangement orders, including enforcement and committal proceedings and contested relocation cases.
James regularly appears in cases in the Court of Protection relating to personal welfare, deprivation of liberty and property and affairs. James represents a range of parties from private individuals, the Office of the Public Guardian and local authorities.
James has provided seminars and advocacy training sessions for solicitors.
