Zimran Samuel (42BR Barristers) spoke at the Bar Human Rights Committee (BHRC) last week on Thursday 16th July 2015.
Zimran gave a presentation on the implications of the new FGM Protection Orders which came into force the day following the seminar.
Zimran spoke alongside Seema Malhotra MP, the Shadow Home Office Minister for Preventing Violence Against Women and Girls.

Zimran is a leading practitioner in this area and first proposed civil orders for FGM when giving evidence to the Home Affairs Committee last year. The key points made during that evidence are summarised in an article Zimran wrote with Kirsty Brimelow QC in The Times newspaper on February 26 2014: Download article

Zimran subsequently made representations to the Ministry of Justice on behalf of the Family Law Bar Association. Zimran was later asked to advise on the drafting of provisions of the new legislation in both the House of Lords and the House of Commons and was acknowledged for his assistance in both chambers of Parliament.

42BR Barristers will be holding a wider discussion on FGM with the President of the Family Division Sir James Munby on 15th October 2015 at the Law Society.
