Family Law Essay Competition
As part of our Headline Sponsorship of the Family Law Awards 2022, 42BR is delighted to have partnered with Lexis Nexis, Creighton and Partners Solicitors and It’s A Lawyer Life on an essay competition open to all current BPTC, LPC and GDL students, interested in a career in family law.
“Achieving transparency in Family justice: what further steps are appropriate or necessary?”
In no more than 3000 words (excluding the title and any references), please answer the above question.
Entries will be judged on legal knowledge and content, analysis and also presentation and readability.
How to enter
Email your essay to competition@42br.com, titled ‘FirstName_LastName_EssayEntry’, by Monday 31st October.
Prizes
- A week long Mini Pupillage at 42BR or a work experience placement at Creighton & Partners Solicitors (funding available for expenses)
- An invitation to attend the Family Law Awards as a guest of 42BR
- £300
- The winning entry to be published in Lexis Nexis Family Law Journal

Terms & Conditions
The essay competition is only open to current BPTC, LPC or GDL students (ie registered as a Student at a UK institution for the 22/23 academic year).
The competition is open between 09:00am on Monday 5th September to 11:59pm on Monday 31st October. Essays received before or after these times will not be considered.
Our markers will not read passed the 3000-word mark, excluding any titles or references.
All entries will be anonymised before they are seen by any of the markers or judging panel. Each entry will be marked by a member of 42BR, before the final shortlist of 10 will be marked by a judging panel.
The winning entry will be announced on 21st November 2022.
