Alex specialises in Probate, Trusts and general Private Client matters, with a focus on contentious probate, TOLATA and will drafting. He is regularly instructed in cases requiring close textual analysis, forensic scrutiny of financial conduct, and strategic insight into estate and trust administration disputes.

Alex also covers cases across Business & Property and Employment Law experience includes unfair dismissal, discrimination, and equal pay disputes. Alex’s instructions often take him to the High Court, as well as the County Court.

Alex brings a depth of life and legal experience, having taught law, worked in Africa, and contributed to death row defence work in the United States. This informs his calm, grounded approach to litigation and his ability to connect with clients from all backgrounds.

He also has niche interests in firearms licensing and animal welfare. He enjoys anything to do with dogs, countryside, heavy metal or blacksmithing.

Wills & Probate

Alex’s core practice is in Trusts, Probate and general private client work. He covers all of these areas and specialises in providing bespoke advice which is realistic and pragmatic. Whether drafting or in court, his experience can be relied upon.

Alex’s main focus within this area is Contentious and Non-Contentious Probate, including will disputes, executors duties, removal and appointment of executors, attorneys duties, TOLATA, mental capacity, Court of Protection and duties under the MCA 2005, IHA 1975 claims, Larke v Nugus requests, caveats, Cobden Ramsay orders and agricultural probate. 

Recent Cases

  • Advising and representing trustees in the High Court on a multi-million pound trust dispute, case ongoing.
  • Advising beneficiaries who have been unilaterally disinherited by the executors under a will. Dispute ongoing.
  • Advising on a claim against an attorney who had allegedly taken several million pounds from the deceased during their lifetime. Case settled.
  • Advising executors in circumstances where there were allegations of the deceased lacking capacity when making a will. Case settled.
  • Representing a beneficiary successfully in mediation in an Inheritance Act claim achieving a settlement of over £50,000.
  • Estate planning of a large agricultural property and will drafting.
  • Advising on care of and ownership of a large number of live stock and pets for which provision was not made in a will.

Business Law

Within Alex’s Business practice, he advises on company formation including shareholders agreements and disputes, company structure, commercial disputes and directors’ duties.

Before coming to the Bar, Alex worked across a number of different industries including resource extraction, charities, hospitality and with large public bodies. This experience allows Alex to understand the realities faced by his clients from perspective. 

Alex regularly acts for local authorities on a range of matters.

  • Alex has advised multi million-pound companies on all of the above and regularly remains in contact with clients to offer ongoing advice.
  • N (2025) - Alex advised on the set up of the company, as well as shareholders agreements.

Property Law

Alex advises on the full range of property disputes including free and leasehold property, service charges and disrepair, this often interfaces with his Trust and Probate practice. 

Recent Cases

  • 2025 - Appearing in the FTT for a leaseholder in a claim for service charges that amounted to £20,000. These were awarded. 
  • 2025 - Advising on and representing a large brewery on termination and forfeiture of pub leases.
  • 2025 – Advising and representing a claimant in an Equality Act 2010 claim against an unincorporated association which successfully settled. Settlement within £10,000s.

Employment Law

Alex has experience representing Claimants and Respondents in all areas of employment law including discrimination, unlawful dismissal and equal pay. He specialises in multi-day hearings and complex respondent work.

Recent Cases

  • 2025 – Advising on a whistleblowing claim and application for interim relief against a billion dollar company.
  • 2025 - Representing a multi-billion-pound company in an unfair dismissal and Equality Act 2010 claim. The Claimants claim was dismissed.
  • 2025 - Representing a large public body in a constructive dismissal claim. This matter was settled amicably. 

Housing Law

Alex welcomes instructions for and against local authorities in all social housing claims, including those which engage with the Human Rights Act 1998.
