Andrew has been involved with family law for thirty years and based in Oxford for the past fifteen, has built up a busy practice from a very low base, covering all areas of family work:

  • Financial orders (including enforcement);
  • Financial disputes between cohabitees;
  • Private and public children cases;
  • Claims under the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975

Recently he has developed a growing caseload representing interveners in financial relief cases involving express trusts of land, constructive and resulting trusts, loans and other extended family property.

Examples of cases dealt with this year include:

  • Obtaining the whole of a former matrimonial home for the husband’s parents;
  • Obtaining a special guardianship order for the maternal great-grandparents of a young child;
  • Recovering a loan in excess of £200,000 for a husband’s mother;
  • Successively representing a parent on an application to permanently remove a child to a non EU, European country

He is a keen networker and has presented a number of papers at national and international conferences and has published several articles during his career. He is also a book reviewer for Family Law and a conference reviewer for International Family Law. He has been involved in training events for local solicitors and for four years was an advocacy trainer for Resolution.

Andrew has recently qualified as an Arbitrator under the Family Arbitration Children Scheme that was launched in July this year. He is also a financial remedies (including TOLATA cases) Arbitrator. Arbitration is an alternative way of resolving disputes without protracted court proceedings, and in many cases can provide a more cost effective and speedy outcome for families in respect of child arrangements and financial claims. He is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and the Institute of Family Law Arbitrators.
