All at 42BR would like to acknowledge and thank Steve Sheridan, who today celebrates 20 years of service. Steve started his clerking career as a Junior Clerk back in 1998, before joining 42BR, known then as 22 Old Buildings, as a Second Junior Clerk in April 2003. Since then, Steve has steadily climbed the ranks at 42BR, becoming Civil Team Leader in April 2010, Senior Civil Practice Manager in 2015 and most recently being promoted to Director of Clerking in May 2022. Steve now heads up the Family and Civil clerking teams in Chambers, a team of 11 Practice Managers and Assistant Practice Managers.
Vincent Denham, Chambers Director says of Steve’s achievement – “Steve shows the perfect example of what you can achieve when you grasp your opportunities. From being a junior clerk pushing a trolley to the High Court to the Director of Clerking in one of the largest sets of Chambers is a very impressive career path in the same business. Well done on 20 years with 42BR, Steve”
When asked to look back at his career Steve fondly remembers his first day as a junior clerk – “I finished school on Friday 12 June and started on the following Monday. I will never forget my first day… a trip to the Old Bailey with a trolley load of papers escorting a silk who was just about to start a murder trial. A completely new world to the week before where I was finishing my final GCSE exams at secondary school.”
Fast forward a few years and Steve recalls joining 42BR in April of 2003 – “An opportunity arose at 22 Old Buildings (now 42 Bedford Row), who were seeking a ‘Second Junior’ to work alongside the First Junior and Senior Clerk. I was very fortunate to be offered this position.
Now 20 years later, I have seen Chambers grow from having 60 members, to now being a leading set of over 120 with 6 KCs – I’ve had an excellent time in Chambers and have had the pleasure of working with some incredible and inspiring barristers, clerks, and loyal clients many who have become friends. There are so many people to thank during my time in Chambers, here’s to the next 20 years!”
Joint Head of Chambers, Tina Cook KC, says – “Steve has been a wonderful clerk and leader at 42BR for the last 20 years! He is one of the most considerate, conscientious, and respectful people I have had the pleasure of working with. Long may that continue!!”
Richard Furniss, Joint Head of Chambers, also sends his congratulations to Steve and thanks him for his “loyalty, dedication and hard work.”
Having worked with Steve at 42BR for nearly 15 years, James Tidnam, Senior Practice Manager, adds – “Congratulations on your 20-year anniversary in Chambers, Steve. Not only a fantastic Clerk but a great friend and colleague to not only myself but to all who have had the pleasure of working with you during your time here at 42BR. Here’s to many more, successful years in Chambers!”
Everyone at 42BR is extremely grateful to Steve for his immeasurable contribution to Chambers over the last 20 years. Thank you, Steve!
