Personal injury
- Martin acts in all kinds of personal injury claims on behalf of claimants and defendants. Recent and current work includes:
- Acting in multiple claims, fatal and otherwise, on behalf of residents affected by the Grenfell Tower fire.
- Multiple claims arising out of a fatal battery fire in a flat where occupiers’ liability and product liability in issue.
- Mesothelioma claim arising out of property renovation in 1990s.
- Acting on behalf of claimants and defendants in claims where dishonesty is alleged.
- Acting for claimants and defendants in credit hire claims.
- Claims arising out of property disrepair.
- Acting for foreign insurers and their UK claims handlers where questions of applicable law and jurisdiction arise.
- He has acted in claims arising out of death in custody. He is able to advise on all human rights aspects of personal injury, fatal accident, and related claims (for example wrongful detention)

Clinical negligence
- Martin acts in clinical negligence claims on behalf of claimants and NHS Resolution.
- Recent and current work includes:
- Death arising from neglect in an acute psychiatric inpatient ward. Claims under Art 2 for breach of systems and operational duty.
- Failure in surgical technique leading to loss of bowel.
- Acting for mother where baby stillborn after alleged failures in management of pregnancy and birth.
- Failure to diagnose skin cancer leading to death.
- Failure to diagnose oesophageal cancer.
- Claims arising out of poorly conducted plastic surgery.
Inquests
Martin frequently acts in inquests, often involving Article 2 ECHR aspects.
He has acted for families, custody providers, NHS Trusts, housing associations, and local authorities.
Some recent examples where death has occurred in a health care setting are:
- Acting for family at a second inquest. Issues addressed were organisation and staffing at hospital (Article 2) as well as nursing care and missed sepsis. Barking and Dagenham Post coverage.
- Acting for family where death by misadventure of detained patient following use of ligature in secure unit. Derby Telegraph coverage
- Acting for family where death by suicide followed failures in community mental health care.
- Acting for family where young child died of sepsis.
- Acting for family where patient died in psychiatric inpatient ward. Neglect and breach of Article 2 found.
- Acting for family of detained patient where ambulance failed to arrive and potential failures in management of bowel ischaemia at hospital.
- Acting for Trust following death from cardiac arrest after administrative failings.
- Acting for Trust where death followed fall from height at hospital.
He acts for local authorities where there has been adult social care involvement before death, including where the duties and powers of social workers are in issue.
He has acted on behalf of custody providers where death has occurred in prison or an immigration centre:
- Prince Kwabena Fosu, died from dehydration, malnutrition and hypothermia at an immigration centre. BBC News coverage
- Mr Gwozdzinski hanged himself at an immigration detention centre. The inquest addressed inadequate training and poor ACDT assessments as well as missed warning signs. Inquest.org.uk coverage
