Zoe McGrath brings nearly three decades of experience to her practice in public and private law children proceedings, with a particular focus on child protection. Having progressed through roles as a Fellow of ILEx and a solicitor before being called to the Bar, Zoe combines a deep, practical understanding of the family justice system with the advocacy skills of a specialist barrister — a background that gives her clients the benefit of both perspectives at every stage of a case.
Zoe is known for the range and depth of her communication style, equally effective whether representing a traumatised teenager, a client with severe learning difficulties, or professional parties such as social workers and Children's Guardians. Having completed vulnerable witness training, she is particularly attuned to questions of access to justice and the special measures needed to ensure that every party can participate fully and give their best evidence.
Her ability to get to the heart of a case, whether unpicking the emotional dynamics within a family or interrogating complex medical and expert evidence, is a hallmark of her practice. Clients and colleagues alike describe her as a barrister who consistently goes above and beyond, providing clear and realistic advice even in the most difficult of cases.
Zoe appears at all levels of the family court, including the High Court and Court of Appeal and practises across the full range of family law, with particular strength in:
Notable Recent Work
In the past Zoe has provided training to Police Cadets on the issue of domestic abuse and what they should be aware of as a frontline agency involved in protecting and supporting victims and their children.
Zoe undertakes pro bono work to support access to justice for vulnerable individuals in appropriate cases.
When requested Zoe provides in-house training for Solicitors on all areas of practice, from updates on the law and specific training on developing areas of law.
