42BR's Family Group is delighted to present our most comprehensive family law webinar series to date.
Covering topics across private and public child law, as well as family finance, this webinar series will span from February to July 2024.

Wednesday 28 February - 5pm
Eléonore Berthelsen and Krishma Patel kick start the series discussing barring orders under s.91(14) of the Children Act 1989.
Tuesday 19 March - 5pm
Jennifer Youngs and Lee Kelleher present a practical summary to covert recordings within private law proceedings.
Thursday 4 April - 5pm
Siân Smith and Catrin Howells review the latest news and key decisions in private law proceedings.

The final report of the Public Law Working Group published on 01.03.21 focused on Supervision Orders as standalone orders to assist the return of children home or to family members.
During this webinar, Jo Porter, will consider the findings of the report together with the current guidance on the use of Supervision Orders, including statistics around their use and outcomes for children. The proposed next steps will be explored, with an attempt to answer the question of whether Supervision orders are worth the paper they are printed on and where we are now.

When proceedings commence because a child is ‘beyond parental control’ to what extent is it necessary or helpful to pursue in addition threshold findings that a child has also suffered significant harm as a consequence of the care they have received? Do such findings shift the ‘blame’ away from the parents and onto the child? George Butler (42BR Barristers) is joined by Dr Ben Laskey (Chartered Psychologist) to explore the implications of seeking these findings from both a legal and psychological perspective.

During this webinar Gemma Taylor KC and Ann Osborne will explore the duties of LAs to notify parents and foreign authorities of proceedings, to disclose papers within proceedings to parents, how/when those duties can be discharged/ limited and the procedure for applying to restrict/ discharge an LA’s duty to notify or provide disclosure.

Siân Smith and Hannah Justiva will discuss the most recent developments in financial remedies, including case law and procedure.
Tuesday 23 July - 5pm
Jeremy Hall and Desmond Kilcoyne conclude the series providing recent developments and case updates in TOLATA cases.
