Matthew has a broad civil practice spanning employment, clinical negligence, personal injury and housing, with a growing specialism in discrimination law.

Matthew regularly appears in the County Court and Employment Tribunal, acting for a wide range of clients including individuals, local authorities and multinational corporations.

Matthew provides straightforward, practical advice, and can explain complex legal concepts with clarity and precision. 

Prior to joining 42BR, Matthew was part of the automated vehicles project at the Law Commission of England and Wales, helping to shape recommendations that led to the Automated Vehicles Act 2024. He also gained valuable litigation experience supporting counsel for the New Zealand Government and advising Barnardos on breaches of children’s rights. 

Personal Injury

Matthew acts for both Claimants and Defendants in a wide range of personal injury claims, including road traffic accidents, employers’ liability, occupiers’ liability, and infant settlements.

Matthew has a busy fast track court and paperwork practice, and regularly advises in conference.  

Matthew has experience in dealing with matters where fundamental dishonesty and/or fraud is in issue, and is regularly instructed to advise in these matters.

Matthew accepts instructions on the basis of conditional fee agreements where appropriate. 

Recent Cases

  • Represented the Claimant in a claim for negligent salon treatment, securing £9,000 in damages for extensive hair damage (2025). 
  • Acted for a cabin crew Claimant injured on a layover abroad in which damages of £10,000 were claimed with both liability and quantum in dispute (2025).
  • Represented the Claimant in a workplace accident involving a colleague who falsely claimed to have witnessed the accident and avoided a fundamental dishonesty finding (2025).  

Clinical Negligence

Matthew is developing his clinical negligence practice. He accepts instructions from both Claimants and Defendants (both in the public and private healthcare sectors) and particularly enjoys dealing with matters concerning complex medical issues. 

Recent Cases

  • Advised a bereaved family in a fatal accident claim against a Defendant NHS Trust where quantum was in dispute (2026). 

Inquests

Matthew accepts instruction to attend inquests on behalf of a range of interested parties. He is able to utilise his experience in personal injury to assist Coroner’s inquests whilst being mindful of the facts that are relevant for fatal accident claims or similar.
